Freestanding Furniture

I make solid furniture - mainly from hardwood but also using quality softwoods, such as Douglas Fir and Siberian Larch, and manmade boards where appropriate. My work is to a very high standard and is designed to last a lifetime. The wood I chose is carefully selected for its colour and grain.

The work that I produce is bespoke and if it is to fit a particular space I will come and measure up in order that I can design something to fit perfectly. The furniture is made to last and I will use mortice and tenon joints instead of screws.

Furniture that I have made includes:

My work is rarely reproduction of traditional design, but I am influenced by design movements from the 20th Century and earlier. Shaker and examples of Scandinavian design have been particular influences, along with Modernism, and it's central tenet of "Form Follows Function". I aim to combine aspects of simple Shaker aesthetic, with an interest in the materials that inspired the Modernists, and the functional styles of Mid-Century Scandinavian design.

I look at combining materials: different wood types, wood with metal, concrete or stone, and even combining finishes and styles within a space, I consider this to add interest.
