Cabinets

All CIDA Kitchen cabinets are handmade around a solid carcass that is jointed, glued and screwed and are designed to stand the rigours of everyday life. The cabinets are made from either Oak veneered MDF or Birch Plywood that may be veneered or melamine faced.

Shaker Kitchens have a face frame that is attached to the carcass. This is 40mm wide and is either in solid hardwood or painted tulipwood.

Scandi Kitchens are made from Birch Plywood with the decorative edge being left exposed and varnished.

The cabinets are mounted onto solid plinths and so heavy worktops can be easily supported.

Worktops

I produce wooden worktops from kiln-dried hardwood (usually oak) and I use wide staves (this creates a very different feel to the blockboard worktops available commercially). As these worktops are bespoke they lend themselves to the inclusion of Islands and are ideal where non-standard worktops are required.

I finish my wooden worktops with a wood protector and three coats of OSMO Top Oil and give advice for maintenance. I do not recommend wooden worktops around Belfast Sinks.

I can fit standard worktops from companies such as Ikea but currently I would work with specialist worktop companies if other worktops are desired e.g. stone, acrylic, Corian etc. In the future I hope to be able to make polished concrete worktops.

Cabinet Hardware

I use quality drawer runners, hinges, and stops. These are die-cast hinges, Hafele heavy duty runners (partial or full extension) and where necessary stainless steel soft close door stops.

I will advise and make suggestions on handles but I like you to have the option of choosing a style that suit you best. This is discussed at the design stage.

CIDA drawer boxes are made from solid wood, Oak or Ash, with a drawer front added. They are mounted on heavy duty soft-close runners. I pay particular attention to ensuring that the gaps for the drawers are tight - about 1mm all around; touches like this are time consuming but add to that feel of quality. I can add internal dividers and drawer furniture, such as waste sorting bins. The drawer sizes are all bespoke and discussed with you.

CIDA doors are mounted on soft-close hinges, or soft-close buffers can be used. I usually make inset doors and can offer a range of styles that will compliment the cabinets. With wooden doors and drawers I pay particular attention to the quality and the grain pattern of the wood as I know that these things make the kitchen special.
